2025-11-25
The official End of Support date for Windows 10 Home and Pro editions is October 14, 2025
After this date, your Windows 10 computer will still function, but Microsoft will no longer provide the following for free:
Security Updates or Fixes: This is the most critical change. Your PC will become more vulnerable to new security threats, viruses, and malware discovered after that date.
Technical Support: Microsoft customer service will no longer offer technical assistance for Windows 10 issues.
Software Updates or Feature Updates: The operating system will no longer receive new features or non-security fixes.
Upgrade to Windows 11 (Recommended): If your PC meets the hardware requirements (including TPM 2.0), you can upgrade to Windows 11 for free. This is the best way to stay secure and receive all future features.
Buy a New PC: If your current hardware does not meet the Windows 11 requirements, buying a new PC pre-loaded with Windows 11 is the most straightforward option to stay on a supported operating system.
Extended Security Updates (ESU): For a limited time, Microsoft will offer an Extended Security Updates (ESU) program. This is typically a paid service for businesses, but a consumer version is also available for an additional year of security updates until October 2026 (sometimes free for consumers who sign in with a Microsoft account and sync settings to the cloud).
Switch to an Alternative OS: You could consider switching to a different operating system, such as a Linux distribution.
If you are concerned about security, the best course of action is to plan to move to a supported operating system (Windows 11 or other) before the October 2025 deadline.
